Did you know the right metal detector could save a dog's life? It's true! For 30 years, I was an animal control officer and encountered many rabid animals in my career. So it was no surprise when I got a call from a veterinarian about a rabid dog at a local ranch. Just the week before, I bought a Garrett GTI 1500 and decided to take it with me on patrol so I could try it out on my lunch breaks. I didn't have much experience with it when the rabid dog call came in, but I had read the owner's manual from cover-to-cover. I'm glad the GTI 1500 is user friendly because it came in handy that day.
The dog was chained when I got to the ranch because his behavior closely resembled that of an animal suffering from hydrophobia or rabies. He paced nervously, salivated profusely, and definitely looked like he was angry at the whole world. Still, there was something about him that made me question the veterinarian's diagnosis. I stepped closer to the dog and he moved away, that's not the typical reaction of a rabid animal.
After asking a few questions of the owner and the vet, I nosed around the barn and saw some fishing gear. I asked the owner if the dog spent much time in the barn before he became sick. The owner nodded, and that gave me an idea. I got my Garrett out of the patrol truck and headed for the dog.
Turning on the Garrett GTI 1500 and setting the discrimination low, I passed the coil near the animal's stomach. Almost immediately I got a visual ID of something round, and the metal ID meter went off the chart. Those indicators, plus a loud tone in my headphones, confirmed what I suspected - the dog had ingested a large fish line lead weight. He wasn't rabid! Lead poisoning can present symptoms similar to rabies, but the outcome can be much better for the animal.
Thanks to the reliability of my Garrett detector, the real problem was discovered and surgery prevailed over euthanasia. Today the dog is doing well, and his owner is happy to have his beloved pet beside him again. This pleasant outcome was provided by my Garrett GTI 1500 and its quick target identification. Garrett GTI 1500 is the metal detector that truly saved a dog's life.

I recently bought this Garrett detector and it only took me a few minutes to set the detector up. This metal detector is very easy to use, but it had difficulty finding items. After telling me there was 0.25 cents $1.00 - 6" in the ground after digging and digging, I found nothing many times and I found this detector had trouble locating things?
I called Garret and they claim that there was metal in the ground at one time that had dissolved?
Pinpointing items was very difficult. The pinpointing pad has now got stuck product has been sent back for repair?
This is my first metal detector and I am not very happy with everything about it and would not recommend it to anyone wanting to have some fun and find different treasures.
