I really love my Garrett CX Plus because it reminds me of my first really good detector which was the Garret MH 7X - yet the digital controls are so much more stable.
I also like the layout of the screen because it emulates the older needle style layout but with the ease of use found in only digital units. I don't there is a model anywhere that pinpoints a target as well as my CX. If I have my CX Plus with me I never have to bring a pin-pointer along because it is dead on accurate. It I.D.'s coins with ease as well.
One of the very best features is the ability to attach the Garret Bloodhound allowing me to find those really deep targets. I love taking my CX Plus and Bloodhound to the sand dunes on South Padre Island. Finding a target is one thing but digging the hole is another thing altogether. Take a youngster with you if you use the bloodhound with your CX Plus or suffer the consequences.
The coil choices on the CX Plus are extremely versatile. They are easily switched and even easier if you order extra lower poles for a real quick switch. While I generally use the standard coil, nothing beats the sniper in trashy areas. Running low on batteries? Pop on the sniper and head to a popular bus stop for about 20 minutes, take your finds and buy a new set of batteries. It's easy as that.
Comfort...Oh yeah. You can hunt for hours with the CX Plus and still have energy for another hour and that's not all. I find that the arm rest keeps me from getting wiped out from shallow water hunting. I can't tell you how many rings I've scooped out of the water with my CX Plus and then still have energy to take my wife dancing.
All in all I will say that if you need a professional level machine that is extremely versatile and convertible, with the look and feel of the last generation professional needle/meter machines. This will be a great choice. It's what the kids call retro. The look and feel of yesterday with the technology of tomorrow.

The Garrett CX Plus Metal Detector is easy to tune and use. Just turn it on and go. I found coins galore. By tuning it, I was able to find a pocket knife, rusted pretty bad, and a medallion. I like the ease of use. Turn it on and go. I bought a small coil, and have found some amazing coins. I bought the machine for finding gold. It is nice exercise. My finds have been mainly coins, bullet shells, copper sheets, and an old pocket watch. I would recommend the detector. I am heading into the woods looking for cashes next! I do enjoy the machine.
My one main concern with the machine is not the best waterproofing. It mentioned this in the description. I have used a plastic sandwich bag over the display and this helps. Love this detector, but looks like I am going to have to get a more water proof detector. To be fair though, I go out in all weather, so the display fogging up after about 3 hours in pouring rain not bad. It is dried out and working good now with the exception of missing a display LCD about the 10 inch mark on display. It is a great machine for the fair weather detectorist.
Oh yeah, coin ID works like a charm!

The Garrett CX Plus does not have an advanced system but definitely ready to roll some coins out of your yard. Easily affordable and even easier to use, i found my Garrett CX Plus a nice surprise for my first hunter outfit. Turned up buckets full of small mixed change, the oldest was a barber dime but many small cents and a few buffalo nickels so i was quite excited over and over again.
Turned up one stamped metal toy truck, which from years of traffic had been flattened but i unfolded the truck to a semblance of recognition. the settings were simple and with very little practice, signal recognition came quite easily. Several war-time tokens and 'mills' were right in my back yard and made for quite an interesting dig for me too.
One exciting find involved five wheat pennies and two Indian heads in broken piece of a small jar which had been resting under about 8 inches of earth long enough the coins were nearly unrecognizable except as small cents.
The typical trash was always present but soon became 'practice hits' for me. Using a good hand tool for my digger, i have gotten pretty good at digging and replacing the divots. i had about five years of excellent hunting with my cx+ before it was stolen out of my truck, since that time i have been to locations in Alaska and back to Oklahoma and i am in a dire need of a new detector.
Maybe if i tweek this review to grab someones interest i may find an answer to solve that dilemna, eh?
