At work one day one of the men was showing the rest of the crew a silver quarter he had found in his backyard that morning using a metal detector. He told us he had found the coin under an old oak tree in a place where he had looked many times before. The coin wasn't in very good condition but it brought back childhood memories of the times when I would accidentally get one of these handsome coins in change. In my option there will never be a coin as beautiful as the standing liberty. The walking liberty half comes close but the quarter is my favorite.

Within a week of seeing that coin I went out and bought my own detector. There was a Minelab dealer in the area so that's what I bought with know regrets even throw it was a little expensive. It has a guage and different sounds to tell you what kind of coin or metal your detector is picking up but my tired old eyes are giving out on me so I have to rely on the only since that that still works good my hearing. Minelab made there detector to work on seventeen different frequencies each frequency has a slightly different tone and every coin has it's own frequency. With practice you can determine the denomination of coins before you dig them up.

That first summer I thought that I had made a big mistake the only thing I was digging up was pull tabs and a lot of other junk I was running my detector on zero discrimination if it was down there I wanted to find it. After clearing out my back yard of junk I was still waiting to find my first silver coin. The weatherman said it was going to rain but where I was the sun was shining with my batteries fully charged I went out back for one more look. There had to be coins in this old yard my wife had found a mercury dime in her flower bed.

An hour into my hunt I noticed that the clouds were starting to gather I may not have been one with my detector yet but I know you shouldn't be outside holding onto a metal pole when a storm is coming. It was one of those gully washers that only last a few minutes. The grass dried off quickly and as soon as it did I went back outside to continue my endless search. Before winter set in that year I was finding coins whenever I went out. Practice makes perfect. To date my best find is a large silver locket with a emerald of some kind. I had it that is until my wife claimed it

From time to time you may read about someone that claims to have found two hundred or more coins in one outing I suppose it's possible but I would have to see it to believe. In all the years that I have been metal detecting I have only found two places that hadn't been searched before. For some reason an old city park had been missed by other people or maybe it was because their detector couldn't cut through the red clay but my detector could see right through it that old park ended up giving me tthree barber quarters, barber dimes, mercury dimes and a walking liberty half. That was a life time ago when metal detecting was just a fad in the same area there was a boy scout camp as soon as Isaw it I remembered that when I was a boy and in the boy scouts we had to take money to each meeting to pay our dues I also remembered that there were times when my money had mysteriously disappeared. This camp had a large flat yard within ten minutes I found four mercury dimes for the next week I hit the yard hard. By weeks end I had found forty silver dimes five washington quarters and a lot of pennies. In all there was well over two hundred coins but I didn't find them in one day. I also found two silver bent boy scout rings. The detector's have more than paid for themselves over the years. When I was working I kept up with the latest technology but now that I have retired I can't afford to buy a new detector every year. I couldn't begin to tell you how many coins and rings I have found through the years. I found a largesilver locket one time that my wife immediately claimed!

I bought my first metal detector back in 1980. I saw an ad for one with sears. I just tried it out, but back then they did not work as well as the new ones. The only thing that I found with that model was metals (nails, rusty iron, cans, and misc. stuff).

I am now in the process of purchasing a new one. I have called Kellyco a few times for the information that I need to make and intelligent decision. Your representatives are very knowledgeable and don't mind people asking question so that they get the right metal detector for their needs. I hope to get one winning this contest, but if not I will be getting one for my birthday this year.

My wife loves to take pictures so she can take her pictures and I can use the new metal detector I purchase. She can take the pictures of my finding and send them to your co.

I feel that this would be a great way for us to get some exercise, and also help find things from the past. If I find something like a high school ring with initials in it, I will try to give to the person who owned it.

It is a great way to enjoy traveling around this country by finding something’s that people thought were lost for ever. When I start this new adventure, you can be sure the first find will be set up on display for all to see.

Sovereign GT, wow where to start!?

I've been detecting for almost 40 years and owned most every make and model detector made. I must say the GT is the best Sovereign ever made and I've owned all of them!

I use it mostly on the salt beaches as it works so well on salty sand where other detectors just chatter. I've found enough gold rings in less than a year to pay for TWO GT's. At 1st it had a little learning curve but after about 6 times out, I knew I had a winner! It is a deep seeker that I've found times at 15inches and that is very very deep! I don't use the Digital meter as I dig by the tones that are very easy to learn. Some people like the meter, just whatever you like will work. The null on Iron is the best thing since peanut butter, you know just what to dig, and not to dig. And the Iron mask feature is way more advanced than other detectors. To be able to find gold under iron is awesome!

I've found gold and diamond rings on a beach that was a WWII training site, littered with brass shell casings and the GT just walked right through it like a champ.

When I first used the Sovereign GT detector it took some getting use to pinpointing because of the Double D coil. Once I got the hang of it the detector really shined.

I have been using this detector for two years now, mostly as a relic detector. This detector handles hot soil very well. I have found minie bullets in hot soil as deep as 10 inches with the standard coil. I also like the way that it maintains ground balance with little effort.

On a recent trip to a civil war battlefield I was able to get a fair number of bullets and I was able to pick out a nice shoulder scale among a bunch of rusty iron. All of this was in some pretty hot soil.

Coins are a breeze in the average yard. The multi tones of the detector signals sounds very pleasant to the ear, almost musical. I have added many Silver coins to my bag with this detector. I think that with a little practice, the average a coin hunter can mostly cherry pick the coins only.

After talking with a beach hunter that uses this detector I am looking forward to going detecting at the beach.

All told this is a good all around detector that really shines in tough conditions. It gets more depth than any other detector I have used in the past. I would recommend this detector to anyone who wants a general purpose detector that still preforms well in difficult situations like relics or the beach.
