Had my Explorer SE Pro for a little more than a year, and this machine is fantastic. I've been using metal detectors, and have been a treasure hunter, since 1969...I've owned and used almost every brand of machine I can think of: Garrett, Whites, Fisher, Tecknetics, and Minelab, and I can say, without the least amount of doubt that this is the best detector I have ever owned.

This is not one of those "toy" machines you rip out of the box and run with (although you CAN do this, a little study of the controls and settings will reap great rewards in future fieldwork...really it will!) but a serious professional machine that can be used by novice and experienced pro alike. And the depth of ground penetration can be so good, it's a little scary. The controls are strightforward and the manual well written. One of my favorite features is that you can set up and save discrimination patterns for specific targets or conditions, and a great feature called "Iron Mask," a variable setting that allows you full control over how much ferrous content you are willing to allow in your intended targets. Being able to idendify your target is king on this machine, with its variable visual readouts, both in graphic and numerical form.

You can also save major settings under two selectable USER modes (I set one for the beach, the other for deep land searches) adds to the flexibility and I put it to good use. Overall, one word comes to mind when I think of my Minelab SE Pro and that is "flexibility," and lots of it for every conceivable (except deep under water) hunting situation.

I live probably 15 minutes away from the Kellyco showroom here in central Florida (lucky me...eat your hearts out :-) and I have found an 1879 indian head cent out in the middle of a dry riverbed, several gold rings (found a 10kt man's wedding band the very first time I walked out onto the beach at low tide with my SE Pro), lots of wheat cents and clad coins, as well as base metals (copper scrap is worth a lot) that I save and redeem at my local scrap yard. The point is, I usually know what it is before I dig it with this machine...and time is money. Get yourself one of these amazing devices and have at history!

I recently bought the new minelab explorer SE PRO. This detector is easy to use right from the box, just turn on and go. If its there this detector will find it, excellent depth with the DD coil. This machine is worth its weight in gold. Whether your new to the hobby or an experienced user take a few minutes to learn this machine. Grab a quarter, dime, nickel, penny, paper clip, pull tab, aluminum can and head out to the back yard. Find a test area and run your detector over it to make sure there are no targets in the ground. Lay all your items out in a line about 3 feet apart, turn on your detector and run it over each item 1 at a time. I like to use the digital screen instead of the smart find screen. Carry a notepad out to your test site, as you pass over each item in the digital screen observe the digital number that coin shows and write it down. For instants, when I see 04 28 on the digital screen I know it is a penny, 03 29 is a dime, 00 29 is a quarter. This machine will let you know what is down there, learn the sounds and the digital readings and you will be rewarded. This is not a get rich quick thing, this hobby takes patients. I have had my new baby out 3 times now and have been rewarded with 14.30 in clad change with 3 wheaties. There is a little learning curve when learning to use this detector but don`t let it detour you from getting one of these sweet machines. The turn on and go feature is easy to use right from the box, learn the digital numbers for what you are searching for. Once you get the hang of the detector you can head for the advance options that this machine has. Minelab is used by the U.S. military, best you can get. The pinpoint feature on this machine is outstanding, the depth is outstanding and is nicely balanced. Almost forgot, I also found a musket ball (at 11 inches) along with the clad change. I give this machine a full 5 star rating!!! simply the best.

Easy to work with a little time. I'm trying to get back into the swing of thing but...overall good machine...very sensitive.....I wouldn't recommend to for a newbie just starting out because of the complexity of the machine and understand of the sounds to listen for....if your not carefull you can be digging alot junk in a hurry....which is was my experience starting out.....getting someone that is familiar in metal detecting is your best bet.
