I received my new Excalibur 1000 and new stainless steel scope from Kellyco, and was excited to be able to use the following weekend. I found it easy to set the control knobs after reading the booklet that was supplied with the machine. My friend and I who also uses an Excalibur 1000 traveled to a local lake and hunted two swim beaches, which normally get a lot of traffic from other water hunters. Between the two of us, with found two 10K and one 14K rings along with approx. $6 in coins. The discrimination that Minelab offers kept me from digging any nails or iron. Gold has a unique sound that tells you, that you have something special. My Garrett 250 has a special sound for coins that I really like, but there is nothing like gold to make your heart race. I would recommend the Excalibur 1000 to anyone wants to take their treasure hunting to the next level.

I give the Excalibur 5 gold stars!

I got my Excalibur II 8' on Monday and hit the beach on Tuesday. I pulled up a Mans bracelet, earring and a silver charm and a bunch of coins..took the detector to the local lake the next day and pulled up a gold diamond ring 4 diamonds in it..This is a great detector I never got any false signals and controls are very easy to use..You get what you pay for..This detector is dead on when it comes to finding the good stuff...Cant wait to take it up in the mountains and see how it handles a gold nugget.

All I can say is "WOW!" In the first few outings I've found silver jewelry, gold jewelry, coins, a watch and even a .35 carat diamond solitaire valued at $1200! I can hardly wait for the warm weather so I can get back to the beaches again! I've booked a 2 week beach vacation and you can bet I will be out at all hours of the day and night. Last year, I was out during the early morning hours came back to the cottage, had breakfast, took a nap and was back on the beach in the evening. I could wait to see what the tourists had left behind each day! I think I'm addicted.

I purchased my Excal 2 from Kellyco to take with me on a trip to Kauai. I always thought it would be cool to metal detect the sands of Hawaii, so I did my homework, read the reviews and took the plunge on the Minelab. Let me say, I couldn't be happier with my decision!
One thing I found is that if you plan on doing underwater detecting, get some weights. I found that if the water was anymore than about 5 feet deep, it made it really hard to try and retrieve the target because of the buoyancy of the operator (me). I found most of my targets in the wet and dry sand areas instead of the water anyways.
I took the machine out a total of 3 days out of my 5 day stay, and found over $5 in quarters, dimes and nickels.
One Morning though, I headed down to Poipu beach and started scanning the sands as I had previously. Well, by this time I was getting better at discriminating the sounds through the headphones as to what the target likely was. I got a hit that sounded like a quarter up high on the surfline, up where people lay out to sunbath. I started digging, and with each spade full of sand, I would scan it with the detector. After 10 or more scoops of sand, I had a hole around 18 inches deep, when I scooped and scanned the hole and there was no more tone..I had the target in my scoop! I carefully brushed the sand away expecting to find a quarter. Instead, staring back at me was a nice heavy mens white and yellow gold wedding band!! Needless to say I was STOKED! It turned out to weigh a hefty 8 grams of 14K gold. I never found another piece of gold on the trip other than this ring, but I also found a sterling silver bracelet that had several sea turtle charms on it at the same beach.
Some of the reviews I read, people were dogging the machine because "the knobs get loose and spin". They are referring to the "volume" knob, the "disc" knob, "threshold" knob etc. This is a really easy fix. Simply remove the yellow cover on top of the knob and tighten the small nut underneath. Other than this one time annoyance, this detector totally rocks!

If you are considering an underwater machine, I would totally recommend this to anyone. I am fairly new at detecting, and this machine was easy to operate and did what it was suppose to...find GOLD! Want the best? Buy the Excal 2, you wont be disappointed.
