After months of mulling over purchasing a metal detector, I finally decided on the Minelab X-Terra 30. I imaged the excitement of finding something valuable like a diamond ring, a rare coin or a gold necklace. What I found with my new metal detector was something far more valuable--a hobby that allows me to bond with my 33-year-old daughter.

"Dad, it's here!", my daughter exclaimed with delight. I believe that she had been looking forward to the arrival of the metal detector almost as much as I was. I had never really seen her so excited over one of my hobbies. Woodworking had never interested her and mechanic work...forget it. This was totally different. She ripped open the box and started to examine all the contents. As I started to read the manual, she asked, "Well, are we going to take this out and give it a whirl?" I laughed with amusement and explained that I needed to at least read the manual. I was very surprised to learn just how easy the X-Terra was going to be to use. Finally I was ready to set out on a treasure hunt.

With my new X-Terra and digging tools in tow I started out the door. "Hey, wait for me!" my daughter shouted. I couldn't believe that she would venture out into the cold just to treasure hunt; however, she bundled up and headed out with me. As we searched I explained to her how the X-Terra would signal when a metallic substance was detected and how the pitch of the sound would give clues as to what type of metal was detected. Even as I spoke the detector picked up something. "WOO HOO!!! We found something!!", she shouted. I stepped back and my daughter began to dig frantically, anxious to unearth our first treasure. I watched with amazement as she smiled while searching though the dirt. Seeing her so excited at the prospect of finding "treasure" took me back many years ago to when she was a child. I could just see her bouncing through the house on Christmas morning with that same look of excitement as she tore open her gifts.

"I found it! I found it!", she shouted. She stood up and proudly displayed our first find--a corroded penny. "This is so cool! Can I try?" she asked. I handed her the X-Terra and, with only a minute or two of instruction, she began to search. As she went along she was amazed at how easy the X-Terra was to use and how light-weight it was.

Once again the X-Terra signaled a find. As she excitedly attempted to unearth the find I looked at her and smiled. "Another penny," I thought to myself, but I didn't say a word. I just stood back and enjoyed the new bond that was being forged between my daughter and me with the help of our new Minelab X-Terra 30. No matter what treasures we unearth, there will never be anything as valuable as this!

I would definitely recommend this treasure of a metal detector to anyone.

I was really disappointed in this machine.Mine would only give a tone on the first pass of a target and not on subsequent passes. It had poor depth.Did OK on the beach .I am a relic hunter and I was seeking to step up to a more powerful machine than my Tesoro Silver Sabre but this one was a step back.Kellyco is the only place to buy but this is not the machine to get.

Kellyco’s Comment:

Minelab must have agreed that the X-terra series needed to be upgraded and now offers the more powerful X-Terra 305-505 and two X-Terra 705’s. Minelab’s Sovereign is recommended for relic hunting.

This new X-terra 305 is great. So far in little time, I've found 3 rings, foreign coins, and plenty of quarters, dimes, nickels, and even a recent us dollar coin. I also have an X-terra 70 and I like this Xterra 305 more. It ids very accurate it has good depth and is great on batteries. It’s light and very smooth to use. Minelab drastically improved the old X-terra 30 with this 305. I highly recommend it!

I've had some good luck with the Minelab X-Terra 30. I have found 3 Wheaties 1935, 1940, 1955 and I've found a 1952 Roosevelt dime and over $4.00 in modern change! I've had it now for 2 weeks. It's the X-Terra 30 model and I've found coins 4 inches deep already with no problem. This is a great detector also found a silver plated police badge 7 inches deep!

I ordered my 305 on a Tuesday and got it in the mail on Friday. Nice turn around time Kellyco. I went to my local lawn party grounds last Sunday and searched the dime pitch area where I know others have been and cleaned up on dimes. The machine worked great and I got a 36 target ID on all the dimes and a 32 on pennies.I found 4.85 in about 2 hours .4.00 of it was dimes. I have not found any jewelry yet but I am having a lot of fun trying. Thanks Kellyco.
