Salt water interferes with most VLF discriminating detectors. I found the best solution is to detect in ALL METAL mode until you get a hit, then switch to DISC mode. A good target will override any salty interference while in DISC mode. Good luck.

This is a great detector. It is easy to tune and use. I use it on fresh water beaches. It does a great job. I have found lots of change and some rings with it. The only thing that could make it better would be a headphone jack. But other than that it is a great buy for the money.

This detector is easy to use and tune. I think it is very sensitive and I like that. I have used it on the Oregon Trail in southeast Nebraska, and founds lots of items that have fallen off the wagons or been discarded. Sometimes these include wagon parts, animal traps, old knife blades, horse shoes, etc. It is all very interesting and historical stuff and people are amazed at what is actually on the trail. Yes, I would recommend this detector to anyone who wants to enjoy looking for and finding metal artifacts of any type.

My friend and I bought the 505 after getting some cheaper ones. These detectors are great! They are very easy to use. The discrimination and I.d. meter are great for weeding out trash. We have found about 100-200 coins, a couple of rings, 2 knives, and even a big pipe wrench. We would recommend this detector to anyone.
