The Bounty Hunter Land Ranger is an intermediate to expert level detector that sells for around $450, but since its kind of an older model you can probably find it cheaper. The land Ranger comes with a stock two coils (4" and 8".) The Land Ranger features a very crowded control panel that shows some of its features such as, target ID, sensitivity and many others. The Land Ranger also has a decent sized LCD screen that shows meters for all of the features. When all of these meters are on the screen it gets very busy.
What I like about the Land Ranger is the amount of features it has. Some of these features are Target Id, VDI (numeric) readout indicating target conductivity, 3 Tone ID, it's manual & automatic Ground Balancing, Programmable Target Accept/ Reject, All Metals, No Motion/ Pinpoint mode, Self Tuning (Motion), All Metals Mode (good for deep hunting.) One of the best features of the Land Ranger is its great discrimination. With the Land Ranger, I was able to hunt in pretty trashy areas and the Land Ranger would hunt through all of the trash and still ring loud and clear on a good target. Another great part about purchasing a Land Ranger is that it comes with two different size coils. This way, you can hunt in different types of areas and still get good results. Because you get two different coils that are included you don’t have to buy another size coil which could get costly. Also, the bigger 8" coil allows you to be able to find targets up to about 12" down.
What I don’t really like about the Land Ranger was that it takes a while to get used to and get the hang of. Like I said, this is not a turn on and go detector and definitely takes time to get the hang of. If you are a beginner, I don’t recommend the Land Ranger. This was a reason why I could not stick with the Land Ranger. Another thing I didn’t like about the Land ranger was the lack of detailed instructions. I found that the instructions did not explain the features of the Land Ranger very well, so I went to the Bounty Hunter website.
Overall, the Land Ranger is a very good detector. It has a very vast amount of features that allow for a varied detecting experience. The Land Ranger is great at discriminating trash targets and lets you spend more time digging good targets instead of trash. The only downside of the Land Ranger is its huge learning curve that can take some time to get used to. But once you get the hang of the Land Ranger its great. I give this metal detector 4 stars for its great features and detecting capability, but it loses a star for beginners having a huge learning curve.

When I first got the Bounty Hunter Land Ranger detector, I was able to quickly set it up. I then turned it on and realized "this is going to take some time to get the hang of." The Land Ranger is not a "turn on and go detector." If you are a beginner, I recommend that you go for a lower model Bounty Hunter. Some of the things that made this detector hard to use at first, was the overwhelming amount of tones the detector emitted. This could be due to mineralized ground conditions, trashy areas (many pull tabs, screw caps etc.) and a condition know as "falsing" (tones due mostly to incorrect "Sensitivity" settings and improper Ground Balancing)
Now that I got all of the cons out of the way, let’s get to the pros. This is definitely a very professional grade detector. It has all of the usual features such as Tone ID and 3 different tones, but on top of that it has automatic & manual Ground Balancing, Programmable Target Accept/ Reject, All Metals, No Motion/ Pinpoint mode, Self Tuning (Motion) All Metals Mode (good for deep hunting of Relics, Caches and/or gold nugget shooting) Another plus is that it comes with 2 different stock coils, a 4 inch coil and an 8 inch coil.
Overall, I would recommend this detector to the advanced detectorist because this detector definitely takes time to get used to. Its many features, plus its great price (around $400) make this detector a great one! 5 stars!

The Bounty Hunter Land Ranger was my first metal detector. I was extremely satisfied with how easy it is to use. Without getting complicated, one can just scan for anything, but there are also settings to just pick up certain metals, etc. Different tones are easily heard.
Also, I have found that the depth that is indicated it can provide is accurate. It's pretty average in the depth that it can reach. The manual is easy to follow. The manual has clear instructions on how to discern between different metals. This is especially valuable to those who are looking for specific things: gold, jewelry, etc.
Avoiding bottle caps and nails is a big bonus when you've been metal detecting all day! One thing that I would change is that positioning of the arm rest. Although the arm rest is adjustable depending on the height of the person, I still do not think that it is very comfortable. However, for someone's first metal detector, this is no big deal compared to the quality of the product.
I brought this to the beach with me, and it can be used in the water. The coils are not easily damaged. Although I have not found anything of real value yet, I am still extremely pleased with this metal detector, and I continue to use it regularly. This is reasonably priced for a beginner's first metal detector. At this price, this metal detector is a fantastic value, and I would recommend this metal detector to any beginner who has been looking to buy their first metal detector.

Being fairly new to detecting and not knowing what or where to search th Bounty Hunter Land Ranger was a great place to start. With easy to use controls, in depth instruction and long battery life this detector made it easy to find everything from pennies to a VERY large (size16) men's wedding band.
Tuning was a breeze. Easy to read controls and everything at the tip of your finger. The unit is light and easy to flick around. An all day stint at the beach or freshly removed sidewalk was no problem.
This unit is very durable. I fell on the shaft, all 250 lbs of me, and it came away unscathed. I also used it in some thick brush with not a scratch on the coil.
For a first timer the ID meter was more than enough. Descrimination was good. As with all lower level detectors there was a lot of junk to be found, but that may have been remidied with some more tuning. I guess being impatient in this world never pays.
My least favorite part of the design was the length when the unit was disassembled. It collapses down to two long pieces, which in the provided bag, was a stretch. It literally stretched the bag!
All in all I would recommend this metal detector to a beginner or an old pro as a back up. Good job Bounty Hunter for providing great units that are easy to use and not so hard on the pocket book.
