With the purchase of the Time Ranger, the top of the line in Bounty Hunter, I was expecting more than what I feel I got. This one was my fourth detector, but first with Bounty Hunter. I was able to start using right out of the box, using the pre-set programs. I was getting many false readings with telling the wrong info on what was in the ground. This can be an OK detector but I might have used less costly ones from others that have given me more return. For some reason, I have not found any gold rings with the Time Ranger and this can be where I was hunting. But I have found several rings by using all the other ones. So, who is to say why that has happened? It can be a starter detector, but as a starter one, buying one of Bounty Hunters less cost ones might be better to start with.

So far so good with the Bounty Hunter Time Ranger: I have found $12.73 in coins and its usually right on the money as far as what is under the coil, however, pull tabs and nickels seem to be the same even in disc mode 3.
The only difference is in the nickels stay nickels, pull tabs stay nickels for a few passes then turn into pennies or dimes. I'm new to metal detecting so this pull tab problem is probably something I will have to learn to live with, I've decided to dig just about everything unless I don't get a pretty solid and consistent reading.
I've noticed that the all metal pinpoint mode is very accurate as to where to dig yet depth is usually off in pinpoint mode my machine seems to read a target deeper than it is again probably my own inexperience so far my finds of aluminum cans far out number the coins and the pull tabs well I lost count of those a few hours into my first go at detecting no silver coins yet but lots of clad.
I think for the price and the amount of features packed into a time ranger you can't go wrong this machine has proven to me already that it is very capable of finding anything you may be looking for if it doesn't see it your in the wrong place, my recommendation to any other newbie if you can afford the slightly higher price tag this machine is worth every dime.

In 1977 I was stationed in Okinawa Japan and wanted to start a new hobby. My dad bought a Bounty Hunter Metal detector and sent one to me. I started hunting for coins around base housing and than around the base in general. I found hundreds of coins but what was interesting the most is I would find bullets form the war and spent casings, and some medals and rings. One thing that I really looked out for was large spots where the detector went wild, I didn't dig them up because there is a lot of unexploded ordinance still underground.
The biggest find I made in Okinawa was a blue star sapphire ring.
In 1980 I was stationed in Michigan and went detecting with my dad and brother weekly. Over the years I have sold silver twice making enough to buy another detector and much more.
In 1990 I bought a Bowling center which slowed down my detecting but inspired to be a distributor. So I set up a store within my bowling center and started selling Bounty Hunter out of my center.
I joined a local Metal Detecting club (Michigan Wolverine Recovery Club) and have been a member for the last 3 years. As of this date I have not participated in a Seeded Hunt but plan to attend one in May of this year.

My husband bought me the Bounty Hunter Time Ranger metal detector five years ago. It was pretty easy to use right out of the box. I am one to read the instructions and follow details however. I figured out how to ground balance it quickly.
It is easy to read face. I have been successful coin shooting by increasing the discrimination. I also bought the gold coil for it. It came with headphones, a carry case, a pouch and a digging tool. I did have a bit of trouble with the headphone connection but my husband was able to fix it.
I can put it in all metal mode to pinpoint a find. I love the sensitivity.
My elderly mother is even able to run this detector with a little coaching. She is my detecting buddy. We hit the beaches spring, summer and fall. It is great fun and she enjoys the exercise. This detector has found us a mason jar full of coins and even a few small silver rings. I would recommend it. I wish it was totally water submersible though.
