My husband has been metal detecting for years, and really seemed to enjoy it. I used to sit in the car and read a book while he detected. Last summer He asked me it I would like to try it. I though why not. I loved it. It was fun. We went into a hobby shop on a Saturday to find something, (I can not even remember what). I started looking at the metal detectors they had. I really liked one, it was a Garrett 150. (It was yellow and light weight)
My husband bought it for me, and I was on my way. We would go detecting but I was having a very hard time pinpointing things. (It did not have a pinpointing feature) After about a month of trying my husband said "You need one with pinpointing on it” We started looking and found me one. It is a Whites. I practiced with it in our yard and was going much better. I am much better with the pinpointing. I like that I can tune out things like pull tabs. I like the different sounds it makes for different coins. We would go every weekend and any week nights we could last summer. I was having a blast.
I still don't find as much as my husband, but every time I find coins or rings I get so excited. I love going out to find "my treasure." I turn it on, put on my headphones and just go. It is so peaceful and relaxing. It has helped to relax me and bring my blood pressure down. I can't wait till it gets warmer. We went out this weekend, it was a little cool. I had so much fun. I only found .35 cents, (a quarter, two nickels, and a penny), but I loved it.

When I sweep the ground and I start it lerioning the different sound of different object and the simpols of the object that my xlt made, I new then that I was hook, for someone thats is new to the hobby was very hizy to use the large display the different way to program and set your own settings, the first time I use my metal detector xlt I was in my sister back yard, she made fun of me by saying I was crazy because I was trying to find object in her yard, but when I found does old coins and a gold ring she was speechless. Since them I found lots of coins jewelery my brother in law wants to get a metal detector of course I refer him to check your site for the better priceses and the large selection of items and metal detector your company offers. I have been metal detecting for several years now. Mostly detect during the cold months of the year when it is too cold to get in the creeks around here to mine for gold. Best year for me and my XLT was the winter of 1997.
During the winter our local lake (Lake Greenwood) water level is dropped several feet below normal full pool. Largely due to rain fall and to let the locals do work on their piers and sea walls. When the lake drops it brings several islands out of the water that is normally under the water during summer months.
The lake locals gather here to hold their boat parties and water sport activities. Thank goodness for water tackle football. A fiend and I decided to take our detectors to one of these islands in December. We bundled up and headed out to the island.
We detected for several hours covering most of the area. I got a strong signal on my XLT, and started to dig. To my surprise, about 3 under the dirt popped out a high school ring. Boy talk about a little whoop deee dooo dance. My partner thought I was going crazy, he did not know what to think.
After showing off my find and settling down some, I made my way back over to the area I had been detecting in. I had only swung a couple inches when I got another ring signal. I dug a total of five rings, two gold ear rings, one gold necklace, and numerous coins on this island this day. My partner found two rings and numerous coins also.
Now every year when we fish and go by this island and see all the locals hanging out, we both look at each other knowing we might have another great winter metal detecting.
